Portico Residential LLC recently became a registered, certified green builder. In recent  years, green construction, as a certifiable method of building , has gained traction in both the commerical and residential real estate markets. With the recent adoption of green regulations by municipalities from New York to Los Angeles, gone are the days when a builder can tout itself as being a "green" contractor by simply purchasing EnergyStar rated appliances and calling it a day.

Today, the certification process is tougher and more stringent reaching into the process as well as fundamental areas of construction once considered off limits to environmentalists. In today's energy-conscious market place, a contractor who desires to become certified green, and consequently offer a certified green product for ownership on the open market, is required to uphold green standards and sustainable design/construction principles. In order to maintain this standing, the certified builder must prove, or directly show, design/build principles being put into effect at the job site, often triggering periodic site visits by local building authorities charged with certification.
